Undercounted census tracts....

If we are not all counted we may loose congressional and legislative representation.

The 2000 Census netted a total count of about 60% of the total residents in the City of Rochester area. As many of you may know we've lost quite a bit of population since then; however the numbers are the ones that substantiate congressional and legislative representation for our neighborhoods. It is imperative that we as a community make an all out effort to assure that everyone is counted.

In order to ensure proper representation in our communities we need people who are ready, willing and able to address the diverse needs in properly informing our residents when they need help filling out the applications which are slated to be mailed out around the end of March 2010. There is a testing process. It would help immensly to have people who know our neighborhoods, cultures and languages can help us obtain our goals.

Visit the US Census website if you would like to work in the upcoming census or to inquire about the 10 question application form at http://2010.census.gov/2010census/index.php. There will be testing for employment and training sites assigned in the greater Rochester area. The local City of Rochester Census Counting committee is aggressively pursuing media outlets and other media options to get the information out. Not to mention use of our faith base community, not-for-profits and educational institutions, as well as local government to get into some of those areas that were not counted in the past census.

We need to also dispel the myth that when non resident people fill out the application form they could be subjected to persecuted for non US citizenship status. The information collected on the form is protected by the Federal government and can not be used discriminatorily against anyone. Q & A information when these circumstances and others arise are/will be available on the website
